Leo Halsdorf was born in 1979 in Luxembourg. He started playing the horn at the age of 10 at the Luxembourg City Conservatory under Marc Bouchard. He subsequently studied at the Conservatorium Maastricht with Erich Penzel, and continued advanced studies in Stuttgart with Christian Lampert. He also studied with Frøydis Ree Wekre.
He was awarded a position in the Sinfonieorchester Aachen, and shortly after was appointed associate principal horn at the Bayerische Staatsoper, a position he also subsequently held at the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and Staatsoper Hamburg. From 2006 until 2012 he was principal horn of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, and while there was tutor at the orchestra’s Orchesterakademie. In October 2012 he returned to Luxembourg, where he plays as principal horn with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg.
A passionate chamber music lover, he performs regularly with pianists, string players, woodwind and brass players in various formations.
